Food is one of the physiological needs of human beings, we need energy to survive. But we can also perceive gastronomy as an activity linked to hedonism, when we look for pleasure in savouring what we eat. If we make a salad at home using tomatoes, are we cooking for nourishment or for gustatory purposes? In this chapter we explore the differences between these two concepts, which are opposing but complementary at the same time. Once we have clarified these matters, we look at how we can cook, nourish ourselves and savour the taste of elaborations made with tomatoes.
